Gardening

Gardening is not only a hobby and way to grow your own fresh food at home, it is also a place were students can engage in hands on learning. There is a lot that goes on in a garden that relates to fields of math and science. Students can also build understanding of traditional lifeways by having the opportunity to engage in similar paractices in a garden setting. I will be working collaboratively with the middle school science teacher Ms. McKay who manages our school garden  and sponsors Acorn's gardening club to have my students help care for the garden while building their skills and knowledge. TAG attempted to start a worm farm for the garden last year with limited success, so we've turned that over to the Gardening Club. Middle school students will be working in the garden constructing a greenhouse for their CiS project. 3rd grade students will be raising butterflies and ladybugs in the spring and learning about garning at the West campus.
